In 1969 when the astronauts landed on the moon I was atop Mt. Haleakala on the Island of Maui working with NASA and firing the world's largest solid state laser at a target set out by the astronauts on the moon as part of an experiment to track continental drift. I was getting a PhD in Physics at the time and enjoyed the work in science but I felt an urge to work more with people and the community. I became a trial lawyer because I felt that my mission in life was to work directly with people and to urseth goal of justice. Community involvment in potecting the enviroment, injury prevention and safety are the core values of my career as a trial lawyer. The Hawaii Legfislature honored my work in bringing The Peoples' Law School to the public in Hawaii and I have given presentations on ending distracted driving to (www.EndDD.org) to 1,500 Hawaii high school students. I came to Hawaii in 1967 to work at Haleakala observatory as a scientist from the University of Michigan and in that work I aprticipated in an experiment conducted in real time with the astronauts during the first moon landing in 1969. My decision to go to law school was based upon my desire to help people and to bring desrving clients the justice they deserve. I have represented clients in motor vehical, product defect, admiralty, construction, tourist injury and medical neglicence cases over the last 30 years. In the 1990's i represented a large group of Hawaii farmers in a lasuit involving a defectrive fungicide that resulted in a $44 million out-of-court settlement. Professionally I was elected by all of the lawyers oin Hawaii to be President of the Hawaii State Bar Association in 2006. In 1986 I founded the oganization now known as the Hawaii Association for Justice that represents all of Hawaii's personal injury trial lawyers and I have served on the Board of Governors of the American Association forJustice. I am currently chair of Trial Lawyers Care, a major effort by AAJ to promote safety and injury prevention across the United States. Surfing and all ocean activities are my forms of relaxtation. Havoing lost my wife, Valerie, to cancer I am active in efforts to find cures and to help patients find the right treatments. Misdiagnosis of cancer is a focus of my law practice.
